Frapin

Speakeasy

$5.00

Frapin, the prestigious French cognac producer, expanded into perfume making in 2002. Their unisex fragrances are well-crafted and just plain gorgeous – just take a whiff of Caravelle Épicée or 1697 and smell for yourself.

Now comes Speakeasy, the first perfume nose Marc-Antoine Corticchiato has made outside of his own Parfums d’Empire line. With Speakeasy, the concept plays on the forbidden, the outlawed. The Frapin web site says that “since today the forbidden pleasure is not alcohol, but tobacco.”

Frapin 1697

$8.00

From award-winning cognac distiller P. Frapin & Cie comes Frapin 1697. One of the oldest families in France, the Frapin family, located at Fontpinot Castle in the Grand Champagne region of France, has been in the distillery business since 1207.  In 2008 they launched their perfume line.

At first glance it might seem odd to have fine fragrances come from a distillery, instead of a fashion house or jeweler, but it makes perfect sense since both distillers and perfumers are in the business of transforming plants into complex sensory experiences.
