Lorenzo Villoresi

Sandalo

$5.00

Sandalo by Lorenzo Villoresi, a deep exotic Oriental woody fragrance from 1995, is not about sandals or leather notes, it’s about sandalwood, a key note in most perfumes, especially men’s fragrances.

Sandalwood is a wood note like no other, it can be dry, powdery, sweet, creamy, resinous or floral, but is always distinctive with its smooth-as-satin finish. Due to restrictions from over-harvesting, creamy rich powdery Mysore sandalwood from India has been replaced by Australian sandalwood, which differs slightly with a green buttery finish to it. Both are addictive.

Garofano

$5.00

Carnations have a floral, spicy scent with a pepper/clove-like aspect that gives them a piquancy that touches me in a place that I cannot name, and it was Garofano, which is Italian for ‘carnation’ by Lorenzo Villoresi that turned me into a carnation addict.

Incensi

$5.00

Incensi by Lorenzo Villoresi is a green incense, not smoky, or dark, or ethereal, or other-worldly, but green and different. Villoresi uses as many pure essences as possible, and right out of the bottle I detect his signature herbal accord that opens many of his scents. This time it’s the drama of leafy notes and galbanum, a green/sour sappiness mixed with the tart sweetness of apple and lemon, the balsamic note of elemi, the lime citrus of bergamot, and incense – what a strong and heady mix!

Teint de Neige

$5.00

Teint de Neige is a winter fragrance for me - in cold, dry, weather it’s truly wonderful. This 2000 release by the Prix Coty winner and niche perfumer, Lorenzo Villoresi, is a brilliant creation featuring powdery notes, powder in the top, powder in the middle, amd powder in the base. As described on his website, Teint de Neige is “the colour of snow”, the delicate rosy hue of a powdered face. The unmistakable scent of perfumed powders, the fragrance of face powder, the perfume of talc, a soft, gentle, enveloping Eau de Toilette, yet intense and persistent.”

Uomo

$5.00

Uomo opens with a blast of bright citrus – the peel, the pulp, the leaves, the juice – it’s green and orange and yellow, and spectacular. My husband says he can smell turpentine after 30 seconds or so – he’s become a committed Uomo fan in the last few days – and I can detect it, too. I think this turpenic accord is the combination of the bitter petit grain and laurel notes, mixed with coriander and resinous herbal lavender. This sharpness recedes, the citrus sweetens ever so slightly becoming juicier, and the heart notes starts to emerge.

Piper Nigrum

$5.00
mint

Piper Nigrum is one of my "go-to" scents when I want to feel calm and clear-headed. It's built on contradictions....warm and spicey from the pepper, cool and green from the mint.

The mint hits you in the topnotes - slightly sweet but creamy - and then gives way to the herbal spiciness of balsam and pepper. It gets drier in the drydown, but the creamy complexity continues - I smell a hint of licorice too.
