Absolue Pour le Soir – Bringing Sexy Back (November 7, 2011 New Fragrance Listing)

I’ve been paying attention to Francis Kurkdjian for a long time. The 42 year- old French-Armenian graduate of ISIPCA created his first scent, Le Mâle, for Jean Paul Gaultier, at age 25. Since then he has created scents for such brands as Dior, Aqua di Parma, Giorgio Armani, Caudalie, Demeter Fragrance, Guerlain, Jean Paul Gaultier, Jesus Del Pozo, MDCI Parfums, Elizabeth Arden, Van Cleef & Arpels - among others. But it isn’t all about quantity, Kurkdjian is one of the most creative noses out there. Just give Eau Noire a whiff, or Enlévement au Serail – the guy is dripping with talent.

In September 2009 he opened Maison Francis Kurkdjian at 5 Rue d'Alger in Paris. I remember the first time I visited the shop, the SA gave me the low down on how the décor, the bottle design – everything - was intended as an homage to Paris in some way. Even the zinc stoppers on the perfume bottles, which were meant to echo the zinc bar tops in Parisian watering holes.

Now, I happen to love and own many FK frags, but nothing, I mean nothing can match the moment when I tried Absolue Pour le Soir on my skin for the first time.

On me, it opens with a carnal, animalic note of civet. You read that right – it doesn’t open with a slow build up to a sexy, animalic heart or base. Absolue Pour le Soir starts where many other frags end up. Along with the civet, there is cumin adding a green, herbal note, and benzoin which adds a smokiness. As it moves to the heart the civet is enveloped in luscious, fleshy rose and sweetened with honey. Ylang ylang adds another floral dimension. Incense is here too, smoky, deep and rich. At the base it gets soft and woody from sandalwood and cedarwood. As it develops, it gets powdery and feels quite old-fashioned in a way. On me the civet note never goes away, it fades in and out, but is always present.

Describing it this way makes Absolue Pour le Soir sound interesting, but don’t be fooled. The minute this juice hits your skin, it starts to sizzle up to your brain where it catapults you right between the sheets where there is some heavy action gong on. OMG! I just had a scentgasm! As it dries down and you calm down, you can smell the traces of your lovely floral/incense/woody perfume throughout the day. But lurking just behind the smoky florals and soft woods is the slight skanky smell of sexual adventure. That’s how I like to roll…..

Today we’re adding Absolue Pour le Soir to our decant sample offering. Decants are $5.00.
