Bronze Goddess – Just like the photos – July 12, 2013 New Fragrance Listing

There was a summer, a long time ago, when I was a bronze goddess. Tanned, lean, strong, I sun-bathed, swam, and slalomed in my teeny bikini alongside the other bronze goddesses and gods of summer in our West Coast paradise. I do not lie, it’s true - I have the pics to prove it.

Just a glance at those photos, and I can smell that “goddess summer” – salt water, hot sand, and suntan lotion on sweated sun-baked skin at the end of a long happy day at the beach. Nothing is like that smell, except maybe Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess.

You likely know the story of Bronze Goddess – how it’s original incarnation in 2007 was as Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche Skinscent, a progeny of the brief marriage between Tom Ford and Estée Lauder. When they divorced, Azuree Soleil was re-birthed in 2008 as Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess, but the amazing scent was the same thank god, and each year since then Lauder has issued a limited edition of this seasonal elixir along with a flanker, some of which have been are very good – Bronze Soleil  - and some of which have been well, good – Bronze Goddess Capri. The important fact is that Bronze Goddess has remained constant in its glorious playful beachy musky sensual splendor.

Bronze Goddess has a long list of ingredients, but there’s no point in running through the regular dry-down rhetoric, note by note. This fume doesn’t work like that. There is a lemon-lime citrus note up top but it’s part of a fabulous coconut-tiare flower-orange blossom floral accord, which is topped off with a hit of spicy lavender. It’s the smell of the tropics, the smell of the perfect vacation in a tropical resort. Then it settles down into the most perfect version of warm beachy ambery musky skin, with hints of rooty iris and woods - hot and sexy, but cool and sophisticated, with a retro feel that fits the current culture moment.

I don’t know what it is about Bronze Goddess – there’s something primal in its mix that never fails to draw me in, and makes smile, relax and go ahhhhhh.  Maybe it’s the inspired mix of tiare – tropical gardenia – with amber and salty musk . Whatever it is, it does the same thing to those around me who catch a whiff of its soft sinuous sillage – “What are you WEARING!!” is a constant refrain.

And it’s not just my skin that Bronze Goddess works her magic on in this intimate way – everybody I know who’s tried it has the same besotted reaction. Bronze Goddess is a mood magician, a feel-good fragrance you can count on to turn a dull cloudy day into a sunny day in a tropical paradise, no matter where you are, or what you’re doing.

I’m a domestic goddess now, but when I wear this amazingly unique Estée Lauder perfume I feel just like the girl in those photos.  I am a Bronze Goddess.

Bronze Goddess, the 2013 Limited Edition – Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent, is listed in our Decant Store. Decants are $4.00 for 1 ml.
