Gilded Lily – Talking about perfection……..(April 8, 2011 New Fragrance Listing)

Gilded Lily – The Flower.
The  Goldband or Golden-rayed lily of Japan , a pure white lily variety with gold radial markings and orange spots. Known for its beautiful scent.

Gilded lily – The Metaphor
Something which is already beautiful, and adorned unnecessarily….. “ to be possess’d with double pomp…to gild refined gold, to paint the lily, to throw a perfume on the violet…” Shakespeare.

So we’re talking about perfume again, which is all about perfecting the perfection of Nature’s scents, which made me muse on some perfect things……

The perfect day – a road trip on a sunny Spring day with my BFF , in my new car. Perfection.

The perfect hour – visiting Saltridges on Burlington's Brandt Street, meeting Nancy Salter, the owner, talking about perfumes and testing all the wonderful niche perfume lines, like Ineke,  in her serenely beautiful store. Perfection.

The perfect fragrance Gilded Lily by Ineke.
Presenting the Goldband Lily as the pure heart of her most recent fragrance, Ineke  Ruhland opens the scent with a fruit medley – grapefruit, pineapple, rhubarb, and bergamot. I smell the sweetness of the flower, then tangy citrus from grapefruit and bergamot and juicy, slightly under-ripe pineapple, balanced by sour rhubarb and elemi – a perfectly genius fruit accord, which creates the sensation of catching just the airborne scents of the fresh fruits, rather than their intense tastes on your tongue!

Then the heart, the beautiful white floral of the lily is showcased, soft and non-indolic, perfectly framed by the gourmand notes, and the warm woody base notes – oakmoss, patchouli, and labdanum.  The waft is light, but full and rich, and is the work of an artist.

Gilded Lily is made from something already beautiful, adorned by an artist, and made even more beautiful. The perfume name, the beautiful bottle, the fragrance  – perfection perfected.

The perfect feeling – watching five tiny fingers of my just-born granddaughter stretching and curling as they feel the air, then grab on to my little finger. THAT is perfection, pure and beautiful, no gilding necessary.

Today, we’re adding Gilded Lily to our decant sample offering. The price is $4.00.
