L’ether de IUNX

Posted in

In 2003 Olivia Giacobetti, backed by Shiseido, opened a boutique called IUNX where twelve of her fragrances were sold.  In 2006, Shiseido pulled the plug and IUNX disappeared, only to resurface again in 2009 in a small space outside the Hotel Costes in Paris. This is where L’ether de IUNX lives. It is the only place in the world you can get it. What a shame, cause so many people would love wearing it, if only they coudl get their hands on it more easliy.

It opens with bitter myrrh and camphor-like benzoin, but soon it gets gently woody from rosewood, maple wood and sandalwood. The rose note stands out and is warmed with saffron and sweetened by the maplewood. The result is a gorgeous, gentle rose/incense frag slightly sweet, slightly bitter and totally memorable.

On me there are no real stages as L’ether de IUNX really is more like a gorgeous vapour than a perfume.

Is it worth flying to Paris for? Don’t ask me: I don’t think you ever need a reason to fly to Paris, but L’ether de IUNX is worth trying and once you do, don’t be surprised if you start finding yourself scheming to get a bottle.

Notes: myrrh, benzoin, rosewood, saffron, maple wood, white sandalwood.
