La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum - Every woman needs this

I read a Vogue article a while ago about the iconic LBD - Little Black Dress - that brought back so many happy memories and which also inspired me to actually count how many LBDs I actually own.  The answer is four, three of which I haven't worn in the past few years, and a cashmere version which I've worn countless times to so many different occasions because it embodies chic timeless style, and transforms me into the most perfect version of myself every time I wear it.

A couple of years ago I discovered an eau de parfum version of my cashmere LBD that has the same effect on me.  La Petite Robe Noire -The Little Black Dress - by Guerlain was created by Guerlain perfumer Thierry Wasser and launched in 2012, a couple of years after the Eau de Toilette.  Described as a Fruity Floral, it is composed of "...the most beautiful  "black" notes of perfumery: black cherry, black rose, patchouli, and black tea..." making it dark and glamorous rather than young and candy-sweet like its EdT predecessor. This LBD has an irresistible appeal, the famously seductive French "Je ne sais quoi"....

In the top accord, black cherry arrives first, dark and sweet but citrus-bright with bergamot and crushed red berries and creamy-soft with almond. Roses bloom in the heart, Bulgarian and Turkish black roses, romantic and luminous, which unfold slowly over gourmand base notes of black licorice, smoked black tea, dark vanilla and almondy tonka bean. Iris and patchouli in the far dry-down provide a lift to the gourmand accords when the black cherry makes a reappearance. The floral and herbal notes separate and balance the gourmand accords so that LPRN is intriguing to the end.

La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum is quite different from the other versions in the LPRN family, less sweet and perky/flirty, much more grown-up with a level of sophistication which follows the Guerlain classics like Shalimar,Mitsouko, or L'Heure Bleue. It has a delicious waft which draws you in, and a long timeline on skin so it's a scent that was made for events where one's Little Black Dress gets up close and personal.

According to Vogue, Karl Lagerfeld said that “One is never overdressed or underdressed in a little black dress”. Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire EdP embodies this statement by the flamboyant designer.  La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum is just like my cashmere LBD - such a pleasure to wear, always the right choice, forever chic, and irresistibly French. Every woman should have this Guerlain modern classic in her perfume wardrobe - it will transform her LBD into the perfect Little Black Dress.
