New in niche

Wallet feeling uncomfortably fat? Perhaps you should lighten it by purchasing Amouge’s latest offering, Journey. See a short film about the fragrance featuring creative director Christopher Chong on NowSmellThis.

Vintage appeal

I love discovering a new old perfume house. Last week, while poking around in a vintage clothing shop in a city I used to live in, I came across a sealed in cellophane bottle of Jean D’Albert Ecusson, and decided to take a chance. What a lovely find! It’s a Chanel No. 5-type floral aldehyde, and I love it! Read a review of it on The NonBlonde.  According to her research, the D’Albret brand was founded after WWII, and the fragrances were later rebranded as Orlane before disappearing. Now I’m keeping an eye open for other D’Albret vintage ‘fumes…

Love aldehydes as much as I do? Enter "aldehydes" in the search bar for a list of adehydic perfumes on offer from Kay and Gwen.

Deals, deals, deals

Pining for a particular fragrance but wishing you could get it just a little bit cheaper? If your frag is available from an online supplier, try this: go to the site, put your desired bottle in your shopping cart, fill in the check out details…but abandon the cart before clicking “buy.” Often, the e-tailer will send you an online coupon the next day to try to tempt you back to buy—typically a 10% off coupon.

Nosing around

If you’re heading to New York City, there’s another stop to add to your perfume shopping map: Fréderic Malle’s new perfumery in Greenwich Avenue. Check out this article on Basenotes, which includes shots of the interior, as well as a video of Malle discussing his latest fragrance Eau de Magnolia with perfumer Carlos Benaim.

Interested in trying other Malle fragrances? Gwen and Kay have Angélique Sous la Pluie, Dries van Noten, Une Rose, Vetiver Extraordinaire, L'Eau d'Hiver, Carnal Flower and more.

Makes me want to try it

Ok, this one I can’t try, because it’s 150 years old, but you’ll probably enjoy reading about it as much as I did: the story of two perfume bottles found in the wreckage of the Mary Celestia off the coast of Bermuda.

Just because

This might be the most “just because” of all of my “just because” links: video of a baby wolf…hiccupping. Yup. Just because.
