New in niche

Montreal perfumer Isabelle Michaud produces some lovely, lovely fragrances in her Monsillage line, so we were delighted by two pieces of recent news. First, her GORGEOUS fragrance  Eau de Celeri has been chosen as an Art and Olfaction Award finalist in the Artisan category. And second, her line is now being carried by TwistedLily.com.  Eau de Celeri is a crisp green delight, featuring notes of  coriander leaf, galbanum, grass, bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, flower buds, vetiver, patchouli and cedar.

Interested in other Monsillage frags? Gwen and Kay have Harricana, Dupont Circle and Ipanema Posto Nove on offer.

Vintage appeal

I recently painted my bedroom…which meant I had to pack up all my frags and move them out of the way.  There’s nothing like boxing and unboxing your goodies to have you exclaiming over things you’d forgotten were there: the vintage minis I’ve found along the way, the mysterious unlabeled trio of bottles that Kay thinks might be a perfumer’s sample of bases, the almost empty bottles of Guerlain Vega and Schiaparelli Shocking that I found baking in the summer heat of a un-air-conditioned antique barn (the juice still carrying hints of its long-ago glory and the bottles just gorgeous). So, here’s my suggestion: reach into the bottom of your decant pile or the back of your fragrance shelf and pull an old favourite forward. “Shopping” in your own collection is fun, cheap—and hey, if you haven’t sniffed it in ages, it qualifies as “vintage” to me ;)

Deals, deals, deals

Well, the ground in my neighbourhood is still covered in snow, but somewhere under there I know there’s dirt: dirt just waiting to feel the sun’s warmth, ready to explode with spring bulbs and summer blooms. And that’s got me thinking of Demeter’s Dirt, a classic frag that helped establish the brand’s presence. Rumoured to be a fave of Clint Eastwood (it would be, wouldn’t it?), Dirt is also as cheap as, well, dirt: a ½ ounce of cologne spray will run you $10US on the Demeter website.

The Demeter line was founded by Christopher Brosius and Christopher Gable. Brosius went on to create the line CBIHatePerfume.  He’s a fave of Gwen and Kay’s, so search his name to find all of his frags that they have on offer. One of my faves? Another take on spring dirt: Black March, available from Gwen and Kay.

Nosing around

Speaking of Christopher Brosius, check out this piece about him in Interview magazine.

Makes me want to try it

Ok, so someday when I win a lottery, this is what I will buy: Christopher Brosius’ complete collection. For only $8500US. Or $12,500 if I included the Rare Flowers collection. Sigh.

Just because

Ok, you’ve probably figured out I’m a dog-lover. Here’s why I love these little sniffers so much: they’re cute AND smart.
