Idole de Lubin

The Bon Marche department  store in Paris has a Niche Perfumes section, where I went to sniff several fragrances that I'd been dying to try. Idole was not on my list.  As I wandered through the area, the Lubin line came into view. The Idole bottle propelled me to pick it up - it has a carved black African mask as a capper, and the bottle is a beautiful curved shape. Then the SA sidled up and told me that Idole was created by Olivia Giacobetti, and I knew I had to try a spritz.

WOW! Rum, bitter orange, saffron, cumin, sugar cane, smoked ebony, leather, sandalwood - this fragrance really surprised me. It is luscious, warm and inviting, but amazingly not overwhelming. As it dries down, the rummy citrus-sweet top-notes take a back seat to smokey, leather/woody seductiveness......and every so often the rum jumps back into the front, which keeps the ride interesting.

Of course, having little resistance to exotic scents, I bought a bottle.
