Several years ago I discovered the L'Artisan Perfume Bar in Bendel's in NYC, and my journey into the world of niche perfumes began. I had no idea what I was in for.

I was hooked at my first whiff of Timbuktu. It was so different from my experience of perfumes through the years - it had not the slightest hint of floral sweetness! Instead, it extended an unobtrusive but radiant veil of incense and sandalwood, dry, cool, exotic, peaceful.  It was a light scent, but as the day wore on Timbuktu maintained its quiet force, and I went to sleep that night still enjoying its mysterious, ethereal charm. In the morning, it was still faintly on the pillow.

A few days later at work, a colleague commented on the incredible scent I was wearing. She thought it was "so sophisticated, such a beautiful smell". I think that's a perfect description of Timbuktu - it truly is a beautiful smell.

Timbuktu is, and always will be, one of my Top Five favourites.
