Comme des Garçons is known for its  unusual scent series, and with the 2007 LUXE series they offer concentrated EdP scents  made in small batches with ultra high quality ingredients. LUXE Patchouli is classified as a woody/spicy fragrance for women and men.
I think the name is misleading – it says LUXE Patchouli, but it is about much, much more. The openers are the signature CdeG notes of pepper and incense, spicy and warm then drying quickly as the resinous woody oak emerges.
After a  couple of minutes, I can smell the fenugreek -  it truly is curry and maple syrup, but the difference is that this is an intense reduction, rather than a simple sauce. Fenugreek is an acquired “note” for some noses, downright hideous to others, but to me it is delicious and haunting - green, sweet, bitter and spicy all at the same time – and the star of this LUXE show.
Opoponax adds a silky shine, and next I smell vanilla layered over the sandalwood, woody and soft. Vetiver and cedar round out the drydown, with hints of licorice, tar and smoke.
And what about the patchouli? The Sumatran patchouli is smooth and complex, soft rather than sharp, woody and  deep, always present but almost as an undertone. . This patchouli is dark, dense and full of texture, perfectly balanced, and this is what makes it luxe – like a dark Rembrandt painting filled with colour in the shadows.

This perfume is expensive, but I think it’s worth every penny.
