New in niche

Oh, Andy Tauer, I do so love you… And now I’m itching to get my hands on Incense Flash, the latest from Andy’s Tauerville line, described on as “a drifting cloud of smoke issuing from a fire in the forest, wet and dry ingredients licked alive by blue-tongued flames consuming leaf, needle, tree and sap.” I’ve already got Rose Flash, am tempted by Vanilla Flash, which Kay wrote about…and now another one to covet!

Andy’s a fave around here, so there are plenty of his fragrances to try out. See a complete list here!

Vintage appeal

There’s a bit of fall in the air where I live—still summery, but just that hint of coolness that has you thinking of pulling your suede boots from the back of the closet, and checking to see what new tights you need to buy for when the weather really starts to turn. And so naturally, I am pining for leather scents, especially vintage Diorling, by Christian Dior. I once found a 1970s-era bottle at an old pharmacy, and have been keeping an eye out for it again ever since. The new stuff? Too light and airy for me. The vintage? A lovely leather chypre I can’t get enough of. Check out this description of the vintage from ThePerfumeShrine.

Deals, deals, deals

So, what’s got me really tempted to buy Tauerville’s Incense Flash is an offer on—while supplies last, purchasing a 30 ml bottle will earn you a 10 ml roll-on of the fragrance, perfect for travel or purse. Hmmm….gotta love a gift with purchase!

Nosing around

Paul Vacher is the nose behind Diorling, as well as many other vintage gems, including the Le Galion line. Check out this excerpt from a 1943 interview with him—“a sensitive poet who never stops breathing life into chemistry”—on BoisdeJasmin.

Makes me want to try it

The Non-Blonde has fallen for two fragrances from the new niche house Atelier des Ors, a French line that launched this year with five scents. She’s all over Aube Rubis, an iris-patchouli blend, and Larmes du Desert, a dry balsamic incense. Read her thoughts here. Now I’m itching to sniff them too!

Just because
